    Paul Hanratty

    Paul Hanratty is Chief Executive Officer, Long-Term Savings, Old Mutual plc and Chairman, Old Mutual South Africa. more info

    Paul joined Old Mutual in 1984 and worked in a variety of areas from the Actuarial Department to Employee Benefits and Product Development before being appointed as Assistant General Manager (Strategic Development) in 1997. Shortly thereafter, he progressed to General Manager (Finance and Actuarial). Paul was promoted to Executive General Manager (Individual Life – Middle Income Market) in March 2001.

    In December 2003 Paul was promoted to Deputy Managing Director, South Africa and given responsibility for Retail Product, Marketing and Distribution. In July 2006, he was appointed as Managing Director - a position he held up until 31 August 2009.

  • Kuseni Dlamini

    Kuseni Dlamini

    Kuseni was appointed Managing Director of Old Mutual (South Africa) in September 2009.more info

    Kuseni graduated from the University of Natal with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where he did his Master’s in Philosophy. He was also a part-time lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the University of the Witwatersrand.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Kuseni was the head of Anglo American’s South African operation, a position he has held since July 2008. Before Anglo he was the Executive Chairman of Richards Bay Coal Terminal Company (RBCT). He also held senior Human Resource positions at Anglo Gold Ashanti and De Beers Consolidated in South Africa and at its London office.

    In 2008 he was also selected as one of the ‘Young Global Leaders’ by the World Economic Forum. The Forum of Young Global Leaders is a unique, multistakeholder community of exceptional young leaders who share a commitment to shaping the global future. Each year the World Economic Forum identifies 200-300 extraordinary individuals, drawn from every region of the world.

    Kuseni is active in professional bodies which include the Economic Advisory Council of the Association of Southern African Chambers of Commerce and the South African Institute of International Affairs. He is the non-executive director of the National Business Initiative and also a member of the Advisory Council for the Wits Business School. Kuseni is also a non-executive board director of Anglo Platinum, Massmart Holdings and Mvelaphanda Group.

  • Dr Ian Goldin

    Professor Ian Goldin

    Professor Ian Goldin was appointed as an independent director in February 2008.more info

    Prior to this (2001-2006) Professor Goldin was at the World Bank, first as Director of Development Policy, and as Vice President. As Director of Development Policy he provided policy and management leadership, contributing to the Bank’s renewed focus on poverty and support for the Millennium Development Goals. On becoming Vice President, Ian became an active member of the Bank’s senior management team, with particular responsibility for the Bank’s relationship with all developed countries, and for key institutional relationships, including with the United Nations.

    From 1995 to 2001, Professor Goldin was Chief Executive and Managing Director of the Development Bank of Southern Africa. Under his leadership, the Bank was transformed to become the leading agent of infrastructure development in the fourteen countries of Southern Africa. During this period, Ian served on several Government committees and Boards, accompanied President Mandela on many state visits and was Finance Director for South Africa’s Olympic Bid.

    Dr Goldin was born in South Africa and after his BSc and BA(Hons) degrees at the University of Cape Town, graduated with a MSc at London School of Economics and a DPhil at Oxford University. He has received numerous awards and prizes, including Chevalier (Ordre du Merit) from France and was nominated Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum.

  • Almorie Maule

    Almorie Maule

    Almorie graduated with distinction in Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics from Rhodes University. She then went on to achieve an Msc. in Mathematical Statistics at the University of Port Elizabeth - also with distinction.

    She is currently a Director of Companies in the private sector as well as for Non-governmental Organisations (NGO's). She has specialist expertise in the mining, gas and oil industries with a specific focus on strategic advice in the arena of transformation and empowerment. She also offers insights in to new business development.

    Her work experience includes ten years with Engen Petroleum Limited which culminated in a three year stint as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

    Prior to that she held various management posts at Gencor and South African Breweries.

    Almorie is a distinguished business woman and has served as a Director on the Boards of Engen, Old Mutual, Wiphold. She is currently a Director on the Boards of Old Mutual and the South African Women in Oil and Energy.

    Ralph Mupita

    Ralph is a director of the main Emerging Markets board – OMLACSA. He also serves on various subsidiary boards. Outside of Old Mutual he is a board member of the University of Cape Town (Graduate School of Business) Advisory. He is also involved in a school in South Africa that’s focused on developing math and science competence for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.more info

    On 1 April 2011 Ralph was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for Old Mutual Emerging Markets: Life and Savings. The focus of this role is to drive growth of our life and savings businesses in South Africa, Rest of Africa, Latin America and Asia through leveraging group capabilities and skills.

    An engineer by training,(B.Sc. Eng Hons.), Ralph obtained a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cape Town in 2000. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s GMP programme, and has also attended executive programmes at London Business School and INSEAD.

    Ralph joined Old Mutual in 2001 in Old Mutual’s Individual Life business. In 2004 he was promoted to Managing Director of Old Mutual Unit Trusts. In 2006 he became the group’s Strategy Director and led the development of several new businesses within OMSA as Director of New Ventures. A key new business that Ralph led was setting up the South African based lending business Old Mutual Finance – focused on lending solutions to mass market customers. In 2008, Ralph was then appointed as the Managing Director - Retail to drive the growth of Old Mutual in the affluent segment which includes the distribution of its solutions through the tied adviser force, broker networks, independent and bank channels.

  • Marshall Rapiya

    Marshall Rapiya

    Marshall has been the Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual South Africa since April 2011. Prior to this he was Managing Director of the Retail Foundation Cluster (Retail Mass Market), a position he held from July 2006.more info

    Marshall obtained a Bachelor of Administration (Economic Sciences) from UNISA. He joined Group Schemes in 1977 as an Advisor in Umtata. In 1987 he was appointed Area Manager, then quickly moved through the ranks as Regional Manager Border and Transkei then Provincial Manager for the Eastern Cape in 1990.

    In 1995 he became Divisional Manager in charge of the Eastern and Western Cape as well as the National Scheme Development Team.

    Two years later he was given the responsibility of running the national sales force and marketing division and in 2000 Marshal was appointed General Manager – Group Schemes Sales and Marketing.

    In February 2005 he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer Group Schemes. Marshall was appointed as Managing Director, Retail (Mass Market) in July 2006.

    Carmen Maynard

    Carmen Maynard holds an M Com and is an economist by training. She spent her working career in investment research and fund management and has been CEO of two asset management companies, a unit trust management company and a leading stock broker. more info

    She retired a decade ago at 48 and now focuses the bulk of her time on attending to family investments.

    She is a member of the Enforcement Committee of the Financial Services Board and sits on a number of investment related committees and trusts.

  • Katie Murray

    Katie Murray

    Katie Murray joined Old Mutual South Africa on 1 January 2011 as Group Finance Director.more info

    Katie has been at Old Mutual for eight years and, to take up her new role at OMSA, relocated to Johannesburg from London where she held the position of Director of Finance: Group Chief Accountant in the Old Mutual plc office since 2006. In her previous role, Katie was responsible for Old Mutual’s internal and external reporting, business planning, and the sponsorship of the Group-wide Finance Controls Initiative (FCI). Katie is also currently a member of the iCRaFT programme’s Steering Committee.

    Prior to 2006, Katie led the IAS conversion project, was involved in the financial integration of Skandia into the Old Mutual Group, and was seconded to Nedbank during its rights issue. Before joining Old Mutual she spent 10 years at KPMG Consulting where she advised global clients on finance transformation.

    Julian Roberts

    Julian Roberts is Group Chief Executive of Old Mutual plc. He joined the Old Mutual Group in August 2000 as Group Finance Director.more info

    In 1993 he became Director and Chief Financial Officer of Aon UK Holdings Limited. Whilst at Aon he led the due diligence process and successful purchase and integration of four major insurance broking businesses.

    Julian left Aon in 1998 to join Sun Life & Provincial Holdings plc as its Group Finance Director prior to its acquisition of Guardian Royal Exchange plc. He was involved in the financing of this transaction and its integration.

    A recognised leader in transforming the profile of corporate South Africa she has received numerous recognition awards. These include the Impumelelo Top 300 Award for "Contribution to Transformation, Job Creation, the Economy and as a BEE Role Model" and the Business Woman of the Year Award in 2005.

    Gloria has been heavily involved with Transnet's retirement benefits and served as Chair of its Second Defined Benefit Fund and the Pension Fund Investment Committee.

    She also has extensive experience at Director level and past directorships include: Chair of Metropolitan Group, Chair of the Life Offices Association, MTN, M-Cell and the Financial Markets Advisory Board.

    She currently sits on the Boards of Old Mutual, Nedbank, the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE), Export Credit Insurance Corporation and the Financial Sector Charter Council.

    Paul Truyens

    Paul Truyens was appointed as an independent non-executive director of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company of South Africa (OMLACSA), on 18 February 2009. He is also a member of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee. more info

    Paul has more than thirty five years’ experience in the life assurance industry in South Africa and overseas.

    He studied at the University of Cape Town on­ an Old Mutual actuarial bursary, graduating BA (Economics) and B.Sc (Mathematical Statistics) in 1971 and BA Hons. (Economics) in 1972. Paul was admitted as a Fellow of the London-based Institute of Actuaries in 1977.

    In 1980 he joined the Southern Life, and was appointed Chief Actuary in 1992, becoming CFO and member of the Executive Directors’ Committee in 1995. During this period Truyens belonged to several committees of the Actuarial Society and the Life Offices’ Association, and served as President of the Actuarial Society of South Africa in 1999-2000.

    Having taken early retirement in 2001, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Netherlands as an actuarial auditor and consultant for life assurance companies in Europe from 2002 until 2007, and in South Africa in 2008. He specialised in financial reporting under local, US, and international accounting standards.

    Since 1997 Truyens has been a director of INCA, the Infrastructure Finance Corporation, where he is currently chairman of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee. He also served on the boards of several listed and unlisted insurance companies between 1986 and 2001.

  • Gerhard van Niekerk

    Gerhard van Niekerk

    Gerhard matriculated from Outeniqua High School and went on to earn numerous qualifications including  B Com. Honours from Stellenbosch University, and MA in Economics from Northwestern University in Chicago and a Honors degree BB&A from Stellenbosch. He also completed an Advanced Management Programme at Harvard University.more info

    He spent his whole career with Old Mutual in various position and locations. In 1984 he was appointed Executive General Manager and assumed responsibility for the Group Assurance, Retirement Fund and Healthcare Businesses.

    Then, in 1990 he was appointed as Chief Operating Officer responsible for the day-to-day business operations.  In 1992 he was appointed to the Board of Directors and became Managing Director in 1997.  Gerhard was a key figure in the demutualisation and listing of Old Mutual in 1999.

    He currently serves on numerous Boards of Directors including Old Mutual, University of Stellenbosch and Finfocus.

    Mr Baloyi is the CE of the Development Bank of Southern Africa. has more than 25 years experience in the banking sector in various roles. He is a former Managing Director of Nedbank Africa, a subsidiary of the Nedcor banking group. Within the same organisation, he was also a Divisional Director: Strategic Business and prior to that, an Executive Credit Manager. Baloyi also had a 14 year spell at Standard Bank, one of the big four banking groups in South Africa.

    His expertise is wide-ranging, covering areas as diverse as credit management, corporate finance, risk management, property development, African markets, human resource management and organisational transformation.

    Mr Fred Robertson

    Fred Robertson, a former teacher started his Insurance career at Old Mutual, first as a Consultant, then as a Branch Manager, before starting his own Insurance Brokerage Commlife in 1990. He introduced the very successful South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) Group Scheme to Old Mutual.more info

    Fred is co-founder and Executive Deputy Chairman of Brimstone Investment Corporation, as well as co-founder and non-executive Chairman of Lion of Africa Insurance Company Limited, the only 100% black owned, A-rated General Insurer in South Africa. He is also Chairman of Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Limited and Lion of Africa Fund Managers (Pty) Ltd. Fred has gained extensive additional business experience through his non-executive directorships of Remgro Limited, Aon South Africa (Pty) Ltd, Aon Re South Africa (Pty) Ltd and Arabella SA Holding (Pty) Ltd. He also serves as Chairman of House of Monatic (Pty) Ltd and Sea Harvest Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

    Fred serves as a Trustee of the Old Mutual Black Distributors Trust, OMSA Broad Based Employee Share Trust, OMSA Management Incentive Trust and the Masisizane Trust founded by Old Mutual. He is also a founding director of the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA) and the Business Trust, a business initiative focusing on job creation and human capacity development.

  • Mr Ashwin Trikamjee

    Mr Ashwin Trikamjee

    Ashwin Trikamjee is a practising attorney and Executive Consultant in a major Durban law firm. He is also a practising Hindu priest and a respected sports executive, having had major involvement with soccer since the 1970s. As the longest-serving council member of the SA Soccer Federation, and a former Chairperson of the National Soccer League, and Vice-President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Ashwin was instrumental in the unification of soccer in South Africa.more info

    Mr Trikamjee is also the former Secretary General of the International Bar Association for Southern Africa and presently Deputy Chairperson of the African Regional Forum of the International Bar Association. He serves on various religious and cultural bodies. He is the President of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, past Vice-President of the Hindu Council of Africa as well as Co-Chairperson of the National Religious Leaders’ Forum.

    Ashwin also serves on the boards of various companies, and is the Chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Gaming Board and of Fasic Limited. Mr. Trikamjee has the following qualifications: B.Iuris (University of South Africa).
