Regional Championships

The Regional Championships take place throughout the country’s nine provinces and Swaziland from the beginning of August through until early October.

The choirs that qualified via the Qualification Stage, as well as choirs that qualified previously for automatic entry, all compete for the title of regional champion in their respective provinces as well as for the chance to compete in the National Finals.

These Regional Championships are extremely popular and see close to 200 choirs and over 8 000 choristers from all over the country taking part for a chance to represent their province at the National Finals.

The large category choirs must consist of min 49 and maximum 60 members, while the standard category choirs must have min 30 and maximum 48 members. Gauteng and the Free State have the most choirs taking part in the Regional Championships, with the Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal close behind them.

All of the choirs participating in the Regional Championships are required to choose a Western song and an African song from the 2012 repertoire of music.
