About Two Oceans
A word from Old Mutual
Old Mutual is extremely proud to be the title sponsor of what is definitely one of the country’s favourite road running events. Over the past 11 years, we have invested considerable thought, time and effort to ensure that your race experience is a successful one and that your Easter weekend is truly memorable.
We were extremely saddened by the death of Dave Spence, our Virtual Coach since 1999. Dave passed away on 7 January and the news came as a shock to all of us. Over the years, he built up strong relationships and friendships with runners from all over the world. Dave, we will miss you and your presence at this year’s race and the running world has lost someone very special.
Well known commentator and journalist George Koertzen, passed away a week after Dave while out cycling. George was passionate about road running and sport in general and was a regular feature of most road races in Gauteng for many years. We will miss your chirps of encouragement from the Powerade caravan on Union Avenue. Our condolences go out to both Dave and George's families and friends.
This year’s event promises to be a very special one as we celebrate our 11th year of involvement and also remember and honour those who have been such an integral part of this event and who are no longer with us. This year’s event is dedicated to them – the heroes of this event.
Our festival of events kicks off with the Old Mutual Comedy Encounters at the Baxter Theatre, where some of the country’s top comedians will be providing audiences with some good laughs.
The Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts take place every Sunday at Kirstenbosch against a stunning backdrop of the mountain and surrounding gardens. Come and enjoy a picnic and some great entertainment in one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world.
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Fun Runs take place on Good Friday 2 April at the University of Cape Town. Bring your family and friends along so they can also experience this great event. We’ve also introduced a new trail run that takes place on Good Friday, before the fun runs.
And then there’s the International Friendship Run for all the overseas participants and their families and friends. This event takes runners on a scenic tour of the city, starting at the Good Hope Centre and running past historical landmarks in the city centre, finishing up at the Waterfront.
If you’re not taking part, then be sure to get along to the finish at UCT on Saturday 3 April to soak up the atmosphere, watch the top runners finish and experience the festive vibe, with entertainment, music and various food stalls. If you are taking part then the finish is a great place for your family and friends to spend some time enjoying themselves while they wait for you to cross the finish line.
Our Green Teams will be out along the route on race day to provide loads of cheering and support to help get you to the finish line.
Please visit our stand at the Expo at the Good Hope Centre, where you can pick up a pacing chart and get your blood pressure and cholesterol tested, as well as win some incredible prizes.
NOAH (Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity) is the official charity for the event. This Charity cares for those orphaned by the AIDS pandemic and they are doing incredible things within communities around the country.
An event like this doesn’t just happen. It takes an incredible amount of hard work and dedication from the race organisers, Celtic Harriers, sub sponsors and Western Province Athletics. I would like to thank all involved for the effort they make to ensure this event is a great success for all involved.
We all come to this event with different goals. Whether yours is to win the event, finish it within the cut off, take part in your first 5km or watch a loved one or friend finish, we will be there to support you. Good luck with all your training and see you on race day!
