Education Initiatives

Secondary Education

Old Mutual’s focus at secondary level is addressing the shortage of students who pass mathematics and science with University Exemption.

LEAP Maths & Science School is aimed at talented learners from grades 10 to 12 from disadvantaged backgrounds. The goal is for each student to achieve a university exemption with subjects including Science, Maths and English.

In addition to this, Old Mutual has developed a Mathematics & Science Learning and Teaching Materials Programme that assists teachers and students to improve results in these areas.

Through the DINALEDI “Adopt a School Programme”, Old Mutual has also adopted high schools to strengthen the education authorities' objectives of fostering maths and science education.

Ingquza Science Centre

The Old Mutual Foundations is working with the Umlambo Foundation which is pairing disadvantaged schools with their successful former alumni and other interested business people to provide a cluster of 4 high schools and 12 primary schools with leadership skills, and provision of infrastructure such as libraries, computers and science labs.

Tertiary Education

The Tertiary School in Business Administration (TSiBA) is Old Mutual’s free-to-student tertiary level supported institution that offers an enriched Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) programme. Applicants are drawn from impoverished communities and the focus is on the development of entrepreneurial skills. TSiBA is based in Cape Town.
