There is no simple solution to the eradication of poverty and unemployment. That has not stopped Old Mutual's business leaders from brainstorming and exploring fresh, new ways to constructively assist with economic transformation.
The focus is on developing profitable strategies that will yield significant social returns. It's ensuring that core business and economic and social responsibilities are perfectly aligned. To this end Old Mutual has been holding financial imbizos based on the imbizos introduced by the government a few years ago. The imbizos are informal face-to-face interactions between decision makers and people living in rural villages and townships.
They enable decision makers to listen and learn directly from community members before developing services in collaboration with them. Old Mutual, Nedbank and Mutual & Federal along with BEE partner WIPHOLD have been holding imbizos in the Mnquma district (Eastern Cape), Khayelitsha (Western Cape) and Kliptown (Gauteng). The intention is to provide holistic and appropriate solutions that will make a real difference.
