True transformation starts from within. To achieve this Old Mutual has a number of initiatives to ensure that we strive towards achieving compliance with the requirements of the Financial Sector Charter (FSC), the Employment Equity Act and the Skills Development Act.
We also offer staff access to counseling and educational workshops to assist and mediate the process of transformation.
Employment Equity
Old Mutual adheres to a strict policy of Employment Equity (EE) and practices targeted recruitment in order to redress the imbalances caused by past discrimination.
And, we believe, that existing talent, combined with training programmes offered by Old Mutual and other South African businesses, enables us to maintain high standards throughout the transformation process.
Diversity Management
Old Mutual cultivates a work environment that embraces and explores diversity. The Diversity Manager runs a series of ongoing Employment Equity and Diversity workshops as well as dialogue sessions.
They target staff across the organization from the Managing Director down and aim to:
- Make us aware that we all have preconceived ideas and assumptions about other cultures and designated groups – especially in terms of competencies.
- Challenge staff to take ownership of workplace diversity
- Assist them to recognise and respect different worldviews and skills.
- Accept that all people are equal and entitled to fair treatment and respect.
The Women in Leadership Forum
This Forum creates opportunities for women in management to network about personal and career development matters. Its aim is to increase the representation of women in senior management in the business.
Skills Development
Complimenting targeted recruitment Old Mutual has a number of internal accelerated development programmes aimed at fast-tracking the careers of black graduates and employees.
There are also several training programmes aimed at university graduates and school leavers. Find out more in our Careers Centre.
