    Bradley Kalil

    Chief Executive Officer: Old Mutual Specialised Finance (OMSFIN)

    Bradley is responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the business. He also serves on Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA)’s Executive Committee.

    Bradley first joined Old Mutual in 1997. After conceptualising and starting OMSFIN, he left in 2000 to assume the role of Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in London. Three years later he rejoined Old Mutual as Executive Personal Assistant to Roddy Sparks, the then Managing Director of Old Mutual South Africa.

  • Hannelie Groenewald

    Hannelie Groenewald

    Chief Operating Officer

    Hannelie is responsible for the wider operational aspects of the business, including market risk, credit risk, economic capital and finance. She is also a member of the OMSFIN Executive Committee. Hannelie joined the Old Mutual Group in 1998 as Financial Manager of the Old Mutual Namibia group of companies. After three years she moved to the Old Mutual Central Finance area as Group Financial Accountant responsible for regulatory and statutory reporting functions. In 2005 she joined OMSFIN as Chief Financial Officer and became Chief Operating Officer in 2008.

    Michael has been with OMSFIN since its inception. He has built a highly successful origination business which now includes Mezzanine and Principal Investment Funds. Michael has extensive deal-making experience and has led Old Mutual in a number of significant debt transactions. A member of OMSFIN’s Executive Committee, he also sits on OMSFIN's Investment Committee, Credit Committee and Board. Prior to joining Old Mutual, Michael worked for Ernst & Young's Investment Banking Audit Practice in London.

    Joseph Njoroge

    Head: Debt Origination

    Joseph heads up the Debt Origination team, which is responsible for sourcing credit assets for both OMSFIN's balance sheet and for Old Mutual Life Assurance Company South Africa (OMLACSA). Joseph is also a member of the OMSFIN Executive Committee. Joseph joined Old Mutual in October 2000 and spent time in OMLACSA before joining OMSFIN.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual, he worked for Ernst & Young both in London and Johannesburg, where his main focus was auditing and consulting to financial services companies.

  • Andrew McPherson

    Andrew McPherson

    Executive Director: Trading and Structuring

    Andrew heads up the Trading and Structuring team, which manages a significant portion of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company South Africa (OMLACSA)’s funds. They identify ways to reduce the risk of capital losses and increase the sustainability of earnings for Old Mutual shareholders. Andrew is responsible for the asset liability management of a R45 billion balance sheet. He is also a member of the OMSFIN Executive Committee and sits on OMSFIN’s Board.

    Andrew joined OMSFIN in 2002 after completing his articles at KPMG. While he was there, he specialised in the audit of corporate, institutional and bank treasuries, and was a member of the treasury advisory group.

    Mandy is currently responsible for the origination, assessment and structuring of investment opportunities for OMSFIN and Old Mutual Life Assurance Company South Africa (OMLACSA).

    Mandy joined the OMSFIN Debt Origination team in April 2007. At the end of February 2006 she qualified as a Chartered Accountant after completing her articles with the Financial Services division of Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Cape Town.

    As a member of the Debt Origination team, Iqeraam assists in the sourcing, negotiating and structuring of unlisted debt transactions.

    Zeyn joined OMSFIN in March 2006 as a Business Analyst after completing his articles in the financial services division at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Over the years Zeyn has gained experience in sourcing and structuring debt funding solutions across various sectors.

    Shaun Harris

    Head: High Yield and Leveraged Finance

    Shaun manages the OMSFIN Mezzanine Fund. He leads a team responsible for the sourcing, assessment and investment of leveraged finance, mezzanine and high yield assets. Before joining OMSFIN in August 2008, Shaun was part of the Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA) Credit Research Team. Prior to Old Mutual, Shaun worked as a Mezzanine Finance Transactor at Makalani. Shaun completed his articles in 2003 at Deloitte and remained with the firm for a further three years, where he was a Senior Manager in the Financial Institutions team and responsible for assessing the pricing, risk management and accounting treatment of financial instruments.

    Marzaan is responsible for the sourcing, negotiating and structuring of unlisted debt transactions, with a focus on leveraged finance transactions.

    Marzaan joined Old Mutual in 2005 and, before joining OMSFIN in 2007, was the Credit Manager for Fixed Income Investments in the Credit Research team in Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA). She completed her articles at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2003.

  • Abdu-Rahman Abrahams

    Abdu-Rahman Abrahams

    Head: Principal Investments

    Abdu-Rahman is primarily responsible for asset origination and overall management of the OMSFIN Principal Investments business. Using the OMSFIN proprietary balance sheet, the Principal Investments team actively seeks to originate and manage a portfolio of quality alternative assets (long-term strategic and short-term trading assets) as well as take advantage of listed market opportunities.

    Abdu-Rahman joined OMSFIN in February 2006 as a Business Analyst, following the completion of his articles at PwC in Cape Town, as a member of their Financial Services team. Abdu-Rahman has quickly progressed through the ranks and in his various roles at OMSFIN has gained extensive experience in assessing and managing investments across an entity’s capital structure, including riskier mezzanine debt, structured equity funding, as well as strategic unlisted equity investments.

  • Lancelot Osburn

    Lancelot Osburn

    Head: Asset Liability Management

    Lance heads up a team that analyses and hedges the inherent interest rate and inflation risks caused by mismatches between the liability and the asset’s benchmarks. He is currently responsible for interest rate trading and the asset liability management of a R45 billion balance sheet.

    Prior to joining OMSFIN in June 2006 as a Junior Trader/Portfolio Manager, he worked for Old Mutual Healthcare where he was the Fund Actuary and consultant to several restricted membership medical schemes.

  • Greg Mollentz

    Greg Mollentz

    Head: Equity Derivatives

    Greg’s area of expertise is the practical implementation, hedging and pricing of equity derivative strategies. His current responsibilities include implementing and dynamically managing a range of hedging strategies on both legacy annuities and new products sold by Old Mutual. This activity mitigates Old Mutual’s shareholder’s risk and thereby reduces capital requirements.

    Greg joined OMSFIN’s trading team as a Structured Solutions Trader in October 2008. Prior to OMSFIN, he was at Gensec Bank where he started as a Quantitative Analyst before becoming an Equity Derivatives Trader. That role continued through Gensec’s takeover by Sanlam Capital Markets.

  • Kevin Wood

    Kevin Wood

    Head: Money Market Trading

    Kevin is responsible for the liquidity and cash management of OMSFIN’s short-term cash and the cash of various annuity products, as well as funding corporates in the overnight market. He is also responsible for trading Old Mutual’s bond holdings in the repo market. In addition, Kevin is very active in the South African securities lending market, acting as administrator for Old Mutual’s equity and bond portfolios.

    Kevin joined Old Mutual in 1999 as a Senior Portfolio Administrator and, amongst other things, assisted OMSFIN’s Managing Director in setting up the Fixed Interest Lending System. In 2002 he joined OMSFIN’s Risk Management team and went on to the dealing desk. Prior to Old Mutual, Kevin worked at Liberty Life (Johannesburg) and later joined Syfrets’s trading desk as a Settlements Manager.

    James is responsible for cash flow management, overnight corporate funding, repo trading securities lending, collateral management and dividend harvesting.

    He joined the Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA) in October 2006 and worked as a Senior Portfolio Administrator in the OMSFIN Back-office Operations team before moving to OMSFIN as Assistant Money Market Trader in May 2008.

    Munnik Botha

    Head: Market Risk Management

    Munnik is a quantitative analyst in the Trading team where he analyses OMSFIN’s trading portfolio risks as well as modelling and understanding the risks inherent in various products written by the Life Company.

    He joined Old Mutual in 1993 and fulfilled various actuarial roles before joining OMSFIN in March 2004.

    Bashier Omar

    Head: Credit

    Bashier heads up OMSFIN’s Credit team and their transactional project management capability. He is responsible for developing a boutique-based credit capability that effectively manages credit risk for the business.

    Prior to joining the OMSFIN Credit team in August 2009, Bashier was head of Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA)’s Credit Research team. He also previously worked at OMSFIN as a Debt Originator and a Credit Analyst. Bashier served his articles at Ernst & Young. He spent a year post articles in Ernst & Young’s Forensic Services division.

    Pieter is responsible for all aspects of the credit analysis process for a diversified portfolio of OMSFIN counterparties, including unlisted structured transactions. He has a strong analytical background and experience in the financial services industry.

    Prior to joining OMSFIN, Pieter worked in Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA)’s Credit team as a Credit Analyst. Pieter’s past experience includes being a Senior Account Manager at the Industrial Development Corporation for four and a half years. He was also employed in the audit and assurance industry for three years and in the construction industry as a consulting engineer for six years.

She completed her articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Cape Town in 2004 and spent the following year with PwC (Amsterdam) in the Financial Services division.

    Tyron joined Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA) in February 2011 as a Credit Analyst. Prior to that he worked at Standard Bank Corporate Finance, enhancing his skills in deal structuring, valuation modelling, the JSE listings requirements and debt arranging. He completed his articles at Deloitte (Johannesburg) in 2006, where he gained industry and business insight from a diversified portfolio of clients. Tyron also spent three months in their Luxembourg office.

    Ray is responsible for the ongoing management of a portfolio of debt transactions, ranging in quantum from R30m to R1bn. She is also responsible for the implementation of deals, post credit or investment committee approval, and the management of the ongoing obligations of the client (borrower) in terms of the various legal agreements.

    Prior to joining OMSFIN in July 2007, Ray was at BoE Private Clients where she managed the Banking Back-office Operations team. She has ten years’ life assurance experience in employee benefits and nine years’ banking experience. While at Old Mutual Bank she project-managed the implementation of the National Payments System and managed the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) account.

    Prior to joining OMSFIN in October 2008, Marcelle worked for the Momentum Group as a Business Analyst where she was involved in a number of systems development projects, including business intelligence, pricing, document registration and workflow. She also worked for Momentum Ability where she was responsible for financial and statutory reporting of cell captives.

    Economic Capital Manager

    Maritz is responsible for OMSFIN’s economic capital management – ensuring that adequate capital is held in respect of all credit risk exposures.

    He joined OMSFIN in April 2008 as a Junior Risk Analyst and later was involved in developing and implementing an economic capital management framework and methodology in OMSFIN. Prior to this he assisted in starting a group-wide model risk audit function for Nedbank.

    Gavin McNaughton

    Strategic Initiatives

    Gavin is responsible for evaluating, formulating and implementing OMSFIN’s business strategy. His role encompasses supporting the executive team and ensuring that OMSFIN is able to operate optimally within the Old Mutual Group and remain competitive within the wider banking industry.

    Gavin joined OMSFIN in 2010 having spent 10 years at Morgan Stanley’s London office where he fulfilled the role of strategic business consultant, most recently supporting and driving the strategic agenda of the European Executive Committee.

  • Marienne Vermeulen

    Marienne Vermeulen

    Business Development Manager

    Marienne is responsible for the implementation of new products and structures. She also has responsibilities within investment operations, information technology, investment administration, operational risk and compliance.

    Marienne joined OMSFIN in February 2009, prior to which she worked in financial services in the UK and Switzerland for several years, and more recently at JPMorgan (Cape Town) as Senior Manager of Specialised Services. Her responsibilities included investment accounting, taxation and performance reporting.

    Cornelie Claassens

    Chief Financial Officer

    As chief financial officer, Cornelie is responsible for financial analysis, financial control and reporting.

    Before joining OMSFIN in April 2008, Cornelie was with Old Mutual Bank Limited as the Regulatory and Management Accountant and later their Financial Manager. She also worked at Syfrets Limited (later Nedcor Investment Bank), where she filled various finance roles in the Asset Management and Unit Trust divisions.
