The Old Mutual Mining and Resources Fund A has won the accolade of Best Outright Performance over the three-year period to the end of December 2010 in the category of Domestic – Equity - Resources and Basic Industries.
The announcement was made at the Raging Bull Awards ceremony held in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 26 January.
The fund, a stellar performer in the Old Mutual Unit Trusts stable, returned 6.42% p.a. over a three-year period, against the category average’s 2.83% p.a.
This fund, managed by Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA)’s Equity Research boutique, bears testimony to the value-add of this team’s world-class research capabilities.
The exceptional performance of this fund is consistent with our expectations from a specialist equity fund over the longer term. However, investors who cannot tolerate the volatility of a specialist equity fund (risk rating 5 on Old Mutual’s rating scale of 1 – 5) can still access Old Mutual’s skill in selecting winners in the resources sector through our suite of general equity and asset allocation funds which also benefit from these exceptional research abilities.
A very consistent top performer

About the Raging Bull awards: Hosted by Personal Finance in association with Plexus and ProfileData, awards for domestic funds are only made in sectors with at least five actively managed unit trust funds and a track record of more than three years. Money market funds and funds in varied specialist or targeted and absolute real return categories are not eligible for awards. Top Outright Performance winners are ranked on their three-year lump sum NAV-NAV performance. Income is reinvested at the ex-dividend date, as calculated by ProfileData.
