Money Market Account

By using your Old Mutual Investment Credit Cards you will become an instant investor in the South African money market, through unit trust funds.

This type of savings vehicle is ideal if you need a low risk investment and capital stability.

Your money is pooled with that of other investors and is then invested in various assets by investment managers who manage the fund on your behalf. The fund invests in money market securities with a maturity of less than 12 months (securities that are usually only available to the wholesale or institutional investor). These are securities such as banker's acceptances, commercial paper, negotiable certificates of deposit and government bills. All gains are declared daily and interest is reinvested (compounded) monthly.

This is a conservative risk fund with a risk rating of 1 (based on Old Mutual's rating scale of 1 - 5). The fund is exposed to limited risk due to the short term nature of the assets held in the portfolio, which substantially reduces the fund's exposure to price fluctuations and interest rate risk. This fund does not offer guarantees. Interest is declared daily and paid on the first business day of every month.

You usually need a minimum balance of R10 000 to R25 000 to invest in a money market unit trust. However, as an Old Mutual Investment Credit Card accountholder, no minimum applies. See this as your investment "starter kit.

Flexible contributions

Money market unit trusts offer good investment returns even for short-term investments. Make the most of your money market unit trust by investing additional amounts at no cost whenever you choose. The minimum additional investment amount is only R500.
