Sometimes unfairly seen as the ‘other’ QR payment app, Zapper has two options: a free plan and a business plan. The free option charges 2.9% commission while the business option levies 2.2% commission. The latter also comes with a R199 monthly fee, which gets you daily payouts. (Merchants on the free options are paid weekly.)

PayFast allows small businesses to accept online payments via credit cards, debit cards, SnapScan, Zapper, Masterpass and – most notably – EFT transactions. It’s a sensible alternative for online shopping. Important to note is that payments are made to PayFast and you will have to request a payout before the money paid is into your bank account – this comes with a fee of R8.70 plus VAT.
