Old Mutual has managed to bag two important wins. Brand Finance, the world's leading brand valuation consultancy, has again recognised the company as one of South Africa’s top 10 strongest brands and the strongest insurance brand in the world.

Separately, Old Mutual was named the country’s Best Long-Term Insurer at the 2024 News24 Business Awards in Cape Town.

Here’s what Old Mutual’s CEO, Iain Williamson, said about these accolades.

Among South Africa’s Top 100 Brands, Old Mutual rose from 8th place in 2023 to 2nd place in Brand Finance’s ranking this year, the biggest move in the Top 10, with an overall brand strength of 90/100. Among overall financial services brands in South Africa, Old Mutual moves up from 3rd place to 2nd place, just behind FNB.

Brand Finance’s report, released in April this year at the JSE in Sandton, gauges the relative strength of brands through a comprehensive scorecard of metrics that helps companies connect their brand's performance and equity to the bottom line, quantifying the financial value of brands against a benchmark of thousands of the world’s leading companies across 20 sectors.

Old Mutual’s climb in the rankings can be attributed to the trust we have built over the years with our customers and the work we have done to ensure that everything we do is connected to our vison: To be our customers’ first choice to sustain, grow and protect their prosperity.

Celebrating SA’s best of the best

The News24 Business Awards celebrate the best in Corporate South Africa, recognising the companies and CEOs who are doing excellent work in building their businesses, while going above and beyond when it comes to strategic leadership, customer service, transparency and building a better SA, and Old Mutual has secured its place on that list as the country’s Best Long-Term Insurer.

It's not an award that is handed out without being earned. Finalists are put through a rigorous judging process, which includes:

1. A survey of more than 5 100 people on their experience with insurers, banks and medical schemes, including their satisfaction with costs, client service and claims.

2. News24’s assessments of companies’ platforms and products – along with their transparency in communication and their contribution to South Africa.

3. An evaluation of their strategy, shareholder value and business performance by a team of financial reporters, fund managers and analysts.

4. An actuarial audit and assessment of final rankings.

We are humbled by this accolade that reaffirms our commitment to becoming our customers’ first choice to sustain, grow and protect their prosperity.
