As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly central to our daily lives and business environment, talent management has shifted decisively away from a focus on degrees and tenure. Instead, the skills employees bring to the workplace are becoming ever more important, says Dalene Sechele, Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Executive at Old Mutual.
“The key question for executives and HR leaders is not: ‘How are we managing our people?’ We should shift the question to: ‘How are we really leveraging our talent as an enduring source of competitive advantage?’” she says.
Research by Old Mutual Corporate has identified four key levers that can drive organisational success:
Digital and AI fluency
Critical-thinking skills
Emotional intelligence
The ability to innovate
“Treat talent as you would capital. Invest in it. Measure it for return. And optimise it for the best effect,” says Dalene.
