To enhance diversification, the portfolios have explicit strategic asset allocations to Africa and Emerging Market equities (in addition to South African and developed market equity allocations). The portfolios invest in three active, listed South African equity strategies, diversifying the sources of alpha (or outperformance) for members. Its local bond investments are governed by an explicit decarbonisation and just transition policy, which is designed to balance meeting global climate change objectives while ensuring that jobs and communities are protected wherever this is feasible.
