Old Mutual Foundation delivers homes and hope to KZN flood victims21 August 2025

In a significant step toward rebuilding lives and restoring dignity, the Old Mutual Foundation has handed over ten fully furnished homes to families in Ndwedwe Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal. This marks another milestone in the KZN Rebuild Intervention Project, launched in 2022, where Old Mutual committed to providing a total of 80 homes in the most affected disaster-struck KZN areas.

Working in partnership with NHBRC and Zamadunga, KZN Department of Human settlements, COGTA, and affected municipalities, each of these new homes comes complete with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom, as well as a water tank to support water availability and crop irrigation.

Last year, Old Mutual Foundation also delivered on the project and handed over ten new homes to families in the Ulundi Local Municipality and another twenty homes in the Okhahlamba Local Municipality.

The mayor of Ndwedwe Municipality, Councillor S Mfeka, shared his gratitude, “We were the second hardest hit after eThekwini. With limited funding, we didn’t know where to turn until we explored the PPP model and met the Old Mutual Foundation. Their commitment has been unwavering.”

Modiegi Radikonyana, Senior Humanitarian Manager at the Foundation, encouraged recipients to embrace their new beginnings. “With these keys, we say it is now in your hands to turn these furnished houses and water tanks into loving homes for your families and communities,” she said.

This initiative reflects the Foundation’s core focus on disaster relief and mitigation, ensuring that those affected not only receive shelter, but a place to truly call home.
