What is Compliance all about?

Regulation 28 Compliance ensures the asset allocation of the fund adheres to the limits of retirement fund legislation of the Pension Funds Act. This allows the fund to be suitable as a stand-alone fund in a retirement product where Regulation 28 compliance is specifically required.

A Shari’ah compliant unit trust fund adheres to the standards of the Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) as interpreted by the Shari’ah Supervisory Board.

What is TIC?

The Total Investment Charge (TIC) is the sum of the Total Expense Ratio (TER) and the Transaction Cost (TC). TER is a historic measure of the impact the deduction of management and operating costs has on a fund’s value. Transaction Costs (TC) are used for administering the fund and impacts fund returns.

What are Fund Types?

There are two types of funds:

Unit trusts are investment mediums providing the means to invest in a portfolio with a selection of shares and other asset classes in markets and economies. This money is managed by investment professionals, called portfolio managers, on behalf of their clients, according to the unit trust fund’s mandate. Whether you’re investing directly or through your financial adviser, it is important that you understand what you are buying.

Similarly to unit trust funds providing the means to invest in a selected portfolio of shares and other asset classes, Life Funds are the range of investment options made available for the life assurance product (e.g. MAX Investments or Old Mutual Wealth) the contractual recurring or single premiums are paid into and from which contractual claims are paid from.

What is a Risk Profile?

The risk profile is used to determine the asset allocation an investor is prepared to have exposure to in order to achieve their investment objectives over a specified investment term. A Low risk fund would be associated with a money market fund with no exposure to equities. A Moderate risk fund is able to diversify across a selection of assets. A High risk fund would have 100% exposure to a concentrated equity sector with limited diversification.

What does the Policy Status mean?

An open fund are available to invest in.

A Capped Fund are closed to new investments. However, existing debit order arrangements into the capped funds will still be honoured.
