    How do I calculate the interest on a loan?

    To get an estimate of how much interest you will pay on a loan, use the following formula: Borrowed amount x interest rate x loan term (years). If your loan term cannot be expressed in whole years, convert the number of months into a decimal (of years). For example, 18 months equals 1.5 years. Using this equation, a loan of R10 000 paid back over 18 months at a 20% interest rate will cost you R3 000 in interest. Just bear in mind that the full cost of a loan will also include fees.
